Gas Safe Register is the official, legally required register for anyone working on gas appliances and installations in the UK — it replaced CORGI in 2009. It's not optional or a marketing badge: it's illegal for anyone to carry out gas work without being on it.
What it actually checks
Registered engineers are assessed against national standards for the specific types of gas work they're qualified to do — domestic boilers, commercial catering equipment, LPG, and so on are all separate categories. An engineer registered for domestic boilers isn't automatically qualified for every type of gas work.
How to check an engineer yourself
Every registered engineer has an ID card with their registration number and photo, and every business has a registration number too. You can check any number directly on the official Gas Safe Register website before anyone starts work — it takes under a minute.
Our registration number is 594385 — feel free to check it before we arrive, not just after.
Why it matters beyond the legal requirement
Gas work done incorrectly is a genuine safety risk — carbon monoxide, leaks, fire risk. Checking registration isn't excessive caution, it's a normal, sensible step for anyone letting someone work on a gas appliance in their home. See our guide on what to do if you ever smell gas for related safety guidance.
